J. Allen Reasons, the new pastor of Lynwood Baptist Church, preaches his first sermon at his new charge. A reception for Reasons and his family is held in the evening at the church dining hall. Reasons formerly was pastor of Central Baptist Church in Itasca, Texas.

Charles L. Hutson has assumed duties as president of the Southeast Missouri Hospital Board of Trustees. Hutson is the 27th individual to serve in that position and succeeds J. Ronald Fischer.

1966

The city of Cape Girardeau is planning to acquire the Rueseler Chevrolet Co.'s former office and garage building at 221 N. Fountain St. for use as a central garage and as headquarters for the public works, engineering and health departments. The city will obtain the property at a price of $108,000 through a lease-purchase plan.

The Cape Girardeau County Court reduces the wolf bounty to be paid in the county to zero. This action results from its finding the bounty doesn't result in the action for which it was designed -- to encourage people to hunt down wolves. Instead, the majority of bounties have been paid on wolves killed accidentally on highways.

1941

High Army officials at Camp Robinson, Arkansas, are attempting to get in touch with Tom Danks of Cape Girardeau, who has gained a wide reputation as an Army and civilian musician. They want to invite him to the camp to be honored as "hero of the day" this afternoon; however, Danks can't be located. Apparently he is spending some time in Springfield, Missouri.

Another motor bus has been ordered by the Cape Transit Corp. because of the good patronage the new bus service is seeing. Three buses are operated regularly on the routes, but a fourth bus was pressed into service to keep up with the demand.

1916

Despite a prediction of rising temperature and rain, cold weather arrives and snow pelts Cape Girardeau in the afternoon.

C.A. Rogers, who recently lost his barber shop and all his barber supplies in the fire that destroyed the Riverview Hotel, plans to reopen within the next week on lower Broadway. The room next door to the McElroy electrical shop is being remodeled, and Rogers will occupy it as soon as the work is finished.
