The Cape Girardeau County Court pays $4,609 to Circuit Court for its share of the right-of-way damages on Route Y, the Greensferry Road; the money was the amount appraised for the Roland Stadt tract in condemnation proceedings; there remains a $1,600 appraised tract in Byrd Special Road District, which must be acquired by the district before all right of way along the road is secured.
MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- A $97,000 grant for constructing a sewage system here has been approved by the U.S. Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration; the city applied for the grant more than three years ago.
Six Cape Girardeau bowlers, en route to St. Paul, Minnesota, to participate in the American Bowling Congress tournament, were injured slightly yesterday afternoon in a head-on collision near Cannon Falls, Minnesota, 34 miles from their destination; the six, members of the Crescent bowling team, are William Bollinger, Max Blitstein, Harold Rudert, Edward Mayhew, Robert Bauer and John Hunze.
Mr. and Mrs. William Heuschober of Cape Girardeau have received word from their son, William Heuschober Jr., who is stationed on the carrier USS Enterprise in San Diego, that he and two of his friends recently visited Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Patrick of Hermosa Beach, California, former Girardeans.
At noon, Thomas J. Juden receives a telegram from congressman Joseph Russell, which announces Juden's appointment as postmaster of Cape Girardeau; the term of the current postmaster, E.W. Flentge, will expire May 8.
The annual May meet of Southeast Missouri high schools will be in Cape Girardeau starting next Friday and will be larger than ever, featuring competition in both scholastic and athletic events; for the first time St. Louis County will be represented by its three largest schools, Wellston, Maplewood and Webster Groves; in addition, youngsters from the big Catholic high school in Perryville, Missouri, also will compete.
