A Scout-A-Rama is held at the Central High School gymnasium, drawing 350 to 400 Shawnee District Scouts.

The Cape Girardeau City Council has accepted a proposal from State College that would pin the college's annual sewer service charge to the fall enrollment and would mean a bill next fiscal year of about $6,300; since the billing went into effect in 1963, the college has been paying $4,800 annually by agreement between the institution and the city.

SIKESTON, Mo. -- City officials from a number of Southeast Missouri communities hear discussions on federal aid, traffic safety and sewage lagoons at a district municipal meeting, the first held by the newly formed regional division, here; attending the session of the Southeast Regional Division of the Missouri Municipal League from Cape Girardeau are city councilmen J. Hugh Logan and A. Robert Pierce Jr. and city manager Paul F. Frederick.

1941

Members of the Church of the Nazarene dedicate their new church building in special services; the structure, at South Park Avenue and Merriwether Street, recently was completed at a cost for $15,000.

Beginning this afternoon, and supplanting the evening worship service formerly held, the Presbyterian Church here inaugurates a 45-minute vesper service.

1916

Work was completed Wednesday morning on the new telephone system at Egypt Mills; a switchboard has been installed in the residence of Dr. O.J. Miller, with lines throughout that part of the county; Cape Girardeau is connected with the new switchboard by a direct circuit.

The first prosecution in Cape Girardeau under the compulsory-education law of the state will occur soon, informations having been filed with a justice of the peace by the prosecuting attorney; the filings are directed against the parents of several children who are permitted to remain out of school in spite of the efforts of teachers and the attendance officer.
