Classes at the new Hawthorn School on Hopper Road won't begin Monday as had been thought; it will be at least another week before the move into the building can be made; the sewer line to serve the school hasn't been completed.

The State College Board of Regents yesterday presented Mark F. Scully, president of the college, a sterling silver medallion in recognition of his 10 years in office; the medallion is to be worn with his robe at academic occasions, such as commencements; Scully said the medallion isn't his personally and will be passed along to his successor.

The federal food stamp plan is approved for Cape Girardeau County; County Court Presiding Judge Harry G. Cracraft received a telegram from Paul H. Jordan of Milwaukee, regional director for the plan, announcing the designation of Cape Girardeau County as an area in which the plan will operate.

Reorganization of the board with the re-election of Fred A. Groves of Cape Girardeau as president for a two-year term, approving of faculty members for the short summer and cotton term sessions, granting of two leaves of absence, decision to complete the modernization of baths in the two women's dormitories and granting of additional hospital service to students, fills the regular meeting of the Teachers College Board of Regents.

1916

Charles Porter Johnson, a St. Louis attorney who was announced as the orator for the Easter services of the Masons in Cape Girardeau, died in St. Louis yesterday; the Masons are preparing for an elaborate afternoon service in the Normal School auditorium.

Fred A. Groves, the local agent for Ford automobiles, announces the appointment of G.E. Cahill as manager of the Ford garage; Cahill has for a long time been the local agent for the Wells Fargo Express Co.
