Classes begin at public and parochial schools in Cape Girardeau; integration of black and white pupils goes into effect for first time; superintendent Louis J. Schultz says there are 36 black pupils enrolled at Jefferson School, which has been retained on voluntary basis for any children who wish to go there.
While school gets underway for most youngsters in Cape Girardeau, Cape Girardeau Catholic High School is exception; plans had been made for classes to begin at new building, but finishing touches have not been completed; opening is postponed one week.

New time card for Frisco Railroad passenger trains through Cape Girardeau is announced; most pronounced change is on Hoxie line, from Cape Girardeau to Hoxie, Ark., through Poplar Bluff, Mo.
Bank of Sikeston was apparently swindled by same two clever bunco men who Thursday secured $700 from two Cape Girardeau banks; check for $375, drawn on First National Bank of Cape Girardeau, is presented to bank here for payment after it had been cashed in Sikeston Bank.
