1987

Jennie and Bill Bell have opened the Ebony-Ivory Lounge at 731 N. Main St.; the structure formerly housed the Mule Lip Lounge and has undergone six weeks of repairs and remodeling.

David S. Glastetter, who joined ERA Cape Realty in February 1984, has purchased the business; the purchase ended a three-way partnership which had been formed in June 1982, when Cape Realty and Vernon H. Landgraf Realtors merged.

1962

State College will ask Gov. John M. Dalton and the legislature for $9,379,644 for general operations and capital improvements at the college during the biennium starting next July 1; the sum, far larger than any asked before, is included in separate budget requests.

Workers have started erecting the tents in Arena Park for the 1962 SEMO District Fair; the fair will begin a six-day run Tuesday.

Members of the St. Vincent's Council of the Knights of Columbus hold their annual Labor Day picnic on the grounds of their South Spanish Street clubhouse; the chief attraction is a big minstrel show, which starts at 4 p.m. and runs continuously through the evening.

The annual Homecomers celebration opens in Jackson; furnishing the entertainment in the afternoon is the Lions Club Chorus of Sikeston, Mo.; a professional troupe, the Sunshine Review, will give free attractions each afternoon; airplane stunts and a parachute jump will also be daily features of the weeklong festival.

Mercer D. Wilson has offered the city of Cape Girardeau about six acres of beautiful land in the northwest part of the city, adjoining the Normal School property on the north, for a park, providing the city will improve it; the tract contains a beautiful cove, as well as two springs of pure, sparkling water.

Judge John A. Snider, who is moving to Cape Girardeau from Jackson, has bought the beautiful Louis Stein home on North Frederick Street; Stein's family is in California, where he may finally establish his home.
