Southeast Missouri State University students are given the opportunity to meet with representatives of 70 potential employers and graduate schools during the university's annual Career Day; about twice as many employers participated this year as last.

Cape Girardeau's first full-time director of its recreation program, Peggy Barringer, resigns, saying it's time for some new ideas to be brought into the program; Barringer went to work for the Parks and Recreation Department 10 years ago as a part-time director of the city's limited summer recreation program for youths.

The Rev. Arvin Kinslow has been selected to serve as pastor of the First General Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau; he will begin his new duties tomorrow, succeeding the Rev. W.F. Cravens, who is now serving the Cedar View General Baptist Church in Granite City, Ill.

The Rev. Thomas N. Bass arrived here Thursday to serve the new Westminister Presbyterian congregation; the congregation has purchased a manse at 1619 Oak Hills Drive, and will build on a Presbytery-purchased 6 1/2-acre site at the northeast corner of Perryville Road and Cape Rock Drive.

A "Buy-a-Brick" campaign to help raise the remainder of the money necessary to secure a Superior Electric Products Co. factory in Cape Girardeau will be launched tomorrow.

A few more than 10,000 automobile owners and drivers in Cape Girardeau and the district have purchased the state's new automobile drivers' and operator's licenses at the office of L.W. Simmons; the new age limit, barring those younger than 16 from acquiring licenses to drive the family car, has irked quite a number of young applicants.

1912

John F. Williams, the liveryman, is offering the free use of a team and surrey tomorrow to haul property owners to the polls to vote against the municipal utilities ownership scheme; Williams wants to do his share toward defeating a ruinous tax rate.

J.J. Propst of Burfordville is in Cape Girardeau making preparations to move to this city, as he will put his children in school; Propst is a painter and decorator of much ability.
