ORAN, Mo. -- Voters in the Oran and Chaffee, Mo., area in a special election yesterday turned down a proposal to combine the R-2 and R-3 school districts through reorganization; it is reported some people in Oran believed that they would lose a high school if the plan were approved; both Oran and Chaffee now have a high school.

J.C. "Bud" Mars, noted aviator, arrives in Cape Girardeau on the morning Frisco, coming here in place of Capt. Thomas Baldwin to appear at the fair; Mars will fly Baldwin's big Red Devil in front of the grandstand at the fairgrounds, making his first flight this afternoon.
The fall meeting of the Southeast Missouri Pastoral Conference will be held in the evening at St. Vincent's College; the meeting of area priests will be moderated by the Rev. Thomas Levan, president of the college.
