The annual report for the Cape Girar­deau Public Library shows that use of the facility at 711 N. Clark Ave., continues to grow; circulation for 1982-1983 was 208,193, another record year.

50 years ago: Sept. 26, 1958

The V&M Construction Co. of St. Louis has been awarded a contract for construction of a new women's dormitory on the State College campus by the board of regents.

Leo A. Fisher of Parma, Mo., chairman of the State Highway Commission, suggests while here that a delegation from Cape Girardeau call on the commission to advance a proposal for a hard-surface road to provide better access along the western boundary of Trail of Tears State Park.

75 years ago: Sept. 26, 1933

The 103 Cape Girardeau public school teachers, who hadn't received checks for more than four months, the vacation season, have been paid about $5,700 through an accommodating act by the school board.

Ways and means are being sought to fund the local American Legion Drum and Bugle Corps' trip to the national convention to compete there; the corps has received $300 awarded by the state department of American Legion for winning the state drum and bugle corps championship, and needs another $500 compete at the Chicago meeting.

100 years ago: Sept. 26, 1908

Because of a hitch in the plans for financing the big cement plant which is about to be located in Cape Girardeau, M.E. Leming, W.H. Harrison, C.J. Crawford and J.H. Himmelberger have left for Lehigh, Pa., where they are to meet with manufacturers.
