50 years ago: Sept. 26, 1955

A stern warning is issued by Police Commissioner Leon McLaughlin to all motorists who have noise-making devices on their vehicles or who engage in loud and unnecessary horn honking on Cape Girardeau streets; the warning was prompted by the number of complaints police have been receiving against motorists who have exhaust pipes rigged with improper mufflers and those who illegally use their car horns.

BENTON, Mo. - An election in a portion of Scott County will be held Tuesday to determine if two reorganized school districts shall be combined into one; they are the R-4 district of Benton, Diehlstadt and Blodgett, and district R-5 of Morley and Vanduser.

75 years ago: Sept. 26, 1930

Final construction work and other arrangements are being pushed to completion for dedication of the Teachers College Houck Field and Stadium here Oct. 3; a crew is putting the finishing touches to the entrance to the huge stadium in order that it may present a most attractive appearance next Friday.

Lawyers of Missouri open their annual convention in Cape Girardeau and incidentally celebrate the golden anniversary of the organization of the Missouri Bar Association.

100 years ago: Sept. 26, 1905

While most of the directors of the street railway company are still hopeful for the completion of the main line and power house so it can be operation fair week, such an event seems nearly impossible.

At the courthouse steps three pieces of property are sold at public auction for the purpose of settling the estate of Herman Steinbach; the property is on Sprigg, just north of Broadway and is considered valuable; the first lot goes to Louis Graessle for $2,775, and includes a six-room brick house; the other two lots are south of the first, and one goes to Will Bergman for $925 and the other to August Flentge for $910.
