Few people attended Vision 2000 town hall meeting last night, but several called televised program with questions and comments about six goals for city to attain by year 2000; meeting was first such gathering to combine panelist discussion of Vision 2000 goals with video presentations and live call-in cable television format.
Morning disc jockey Mike Ford of KGMO, Oldies 100.7 FM, is living on billboard for five days to help Easter Seal Society of Southeast Missouri raise money; Ford has been on "Million Dollar" billboard on Wal-Mart parking lot since 7 a.m. Monday, and will come down Friday at 5 p.m.

Kelso - Boyd Hobbs of Cape Girardeau and his son, Lonnie, who lives at Swinton, recently repaired damage done during early August storm to steeple of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Kelso; Hobbs and his son are both professional steeplejacks; the Rev. Raymond Orf, pastor, said men painted and refinished steeple in addition to storm damage repair.
Altenburg - "The best little fair in the land," East Perry County Fair, once again proved huge success as bright skies and appearance by Gov. Christopher S. Bond brought estimated 5,000 to 6,000 visitors here for Friday and Saturday events; Bond was accompanied by Lt. Gov. and Mrs. William Phelps.
50 years ago: Sept. 26, 1951
Three distinct health menaces, all attributed to non-existent sewers, are documented in detail in report submitted to municipal authorities by Missouri Division of Health; hazardous areas are Happy Hollow, former dump ground; tributary of Cape LaCroix Creek, flowing generally on west side of Highway 61 from point north of Hopper Road southward to Cape LaCroix Creek near Gordonville Road; and Walker Creek, from point northeast of Karau Lane southward to its junction with Cape LaCroix Creek on east side of Highway 61.
Given favorable weather, Atkinson-Windle Co. of Chillicothe, contractors for paving of new section of Highway 61, expects to complete pouring concrete by end of next week; it will be some time after that, however before route will open; shoulders must be dressed, and newest concrete must cure.
75 years ago: Sept. 26, 1926
The Rev. F.H. Melzer, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, returned Friday from St. Louis, where he had been attending meeting of officials of Lutheran Church in this synod; he represented Cape Girardeau circuit at meeting, which includes congregations in this and surrounding counties.
Egypt Mills - Annual Sunday School picnic of Egypt Mills Lutheran Church is held in afternoon; large crowd feasts on fried chicken sandwiches prepared by women of congregation.
