At the request of Jackson city administrator Carl Talley, the Cape Girardeau County Commission has signed a petition requesting friendly annexation of Klaus Park into the city of Jackson; the park is on the southwest side of the Interstate 55/U.S. 61 intersection.

KBSI-TV, a UHF television station that started airing programs here in September 1983, will be under new ownership in the near future; Steven B. Engles of Shawnee Mission, Kansas, and David Engles of Los Angeles made their offer to purchase the station in a May 25 letter to Cape Family Television Ltd. and Media Central Inc.

The construction of Interstate 55 through northern Cape Girardeau, Perry and Ste. Genevieve counties isn't expected to begin for at least four more years; it will take 58.3 miles of super-highway construction to close the gap between the present terminus of I-55 at Fruitland with Jefferson County and will be done in five projects.

The Jackson City Council last night turned down a proposal by city engineer Truman Farrow, who has resigned that post effective Oct. 1, to continue working for the city on a contract basis.

1939

With more men to be laid off because they have been working continuously for 18 months, the number of WPA workers in Cape Girardeau County will be down to 297 by Oct. 2 unless others are called to jobs; women have been taken out of jobs, too, because of the 18-month ruling, and the sewing room in the H.-H. Building has been closed.

CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Work has been resumed on an addition to the Chaffee Manufacturing Co. plant after a month's shutdown because of a lack of funds.

1914

It appears the white way streetlights will be extended, the city council having agreed to light Independence Street between Main and Spanish streets, and along the riverfront, from Broadway to Independence Street.

P.C. Robinson of St. Louis, an agent for Standard Oil Co., is here to confer with contractors on the building of the plant at Maple and Giboney avenues; the agency to be established here will supply the Southeast Missouri territory.
