75 years ago: Sept. 15, 1929

Members of First Baptist Church have extended call to the Rev. Elbert Owens of Charleston as pastor of church, but Owens says he hasn't accepted call; church in Cape Girardeau has been without pastor for months.

Evangelical congregation holds its worship service in morning at Common Pleas Courthouse and Sunday school at Chamber of Commerce building; relocation is necessary during construction of congregation's new church building.
