Yesterday's Sneak a Peek Day at the SEMO District Fair was a big success, with between 9,000 and 11,000 people taking advantage of free admission and free parking to attend; the official start of the fair is this evening, with the parade beginning at 5:30 p.m.
A local cooperative agreement between the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the city of Cape Girardeau for a $28 million Cape Lacroix-Walker Creek flood-control project is awaiting approval of an assistant secretary of the Army; final approval is expected within 30 days.

A complete reworking of the Capaha Park baseball diamond, including the replacement of the infield dirt and reseeding of the infield grass, is being done by the city park department.
Mrs. Chris E. Stiver and Mrs. A.C. Vasterling, sisters, have donated an electric organ to First Baptist Church as a memorial to their mother, Mrs. Florence Adele Brooks, one of the pioneer members of the congregation, who died two years ago.
Forty-eight men from law enforcement agencies throughout Missouri are attending an FBI-sponsored criminal investigation school; the peace officers will study modern methods of crime investigation during the five-day institute.
