Cape Girardeau City Council members last night heard a request from the Chamber of Commerce to develop a plan to help alleviate flooding problems along Cape LaCroix Creek; with an estimated cost of as much as $50,000 to $100,000, city leaders question whether businessmen and property owners affected by the flooding would be willing to help pay for the cure.
Wet coal, the result of Monday morning's downpour, caused the shutdown of the power plant generator at Southeast Missouri State University; many university facilities were without air conditioning and with only scant lighting.

Outboard motor boats plying the waters of the Mississippi here are literally muffled by the city council; an ordinance was adopted that provides that all motorboats shall be equipped with mufflers so as to minimize noise; a fine of up to $100 or 30 days in jail is the penalty for violating the ordinance.
