In a Common Pleas courtroom filled with family, colleagues, court personnel and friends, Stephen N. Limbaugh Jr., takes the oath as Division I Circuit Judge for the 32nd District; he is sworn in by his father, U.S. District Judge Stephen N. Limbaugh Sr.

This morning marks the official end of summer and the beginning of another school year for many students around the area, including those in Cape Girardeau public schools; preliminary figures show enrollment in the district is up about 150 this year.

1962

The suit filed last week in St. Louis by seven black Charleston, Mo., parents seeking to have the public schools there integrated is brought within the jurisdiction of the U.S. Federal District Court at Cape Girardeau, when the papers are filed here; defendants in the case are the board of education, and the city and Mississippi County school superintendents.

Use of part of the George Kimbel land on U.S. 61 at Jackson for a golf course is discussed at a conference at the Paul Mueller Jr. office in Jackson; a country club is being organized, which would take a long-term lease on a 77-acre tract.

1937

SIKESTON, Mo. -- James E. Matthews of Sikeston departs for Jefferson City, Mo., where he will make arrangements for taking over his duties as the newly appointed director of the State Penal Board; Matthews terminated his work Monday with the Division 10 office of the State Highway Department, with which he had been associated since 1921.

Caroline S. Beers of Cape Girardeau is notified by telegram of the death of her sister, Sister Mary Aquina Ording, SSND, who for seven years was principal at St. Mary's Catholic High School.

Among a number of items handled by the school board during a four-hour meeting yesterday, members decided to order telephones installed in all the Cape Girardeau public schools, with an additional one in the library and study room of the high school.

Tony Noce leaves in the afternoon for Neelys Landing, where he will teach school during the coming term.
