25 years ago: Aug. 31, 1985

McGee, Mo. -- Members of the World War II Historical Re-enactment Society take part in a re-enactment of the Battle of Luxembourg in Bollinger County; more than 60 men and women take part in battle, which will continue tomorrow.

Police yesterday arrested and charged a Paducah, Ky., man with violating a city ordinance that requires a permit to land an aircraft in the city; an officer happened to see him land a helicopter on private property in the vicinity of the 700 block of South Kingshighway.

50 years ago: Aug. 31, 1960

Wilhelmina L. Vieh, 84, a resident of Cape Girardeau for 42 years and a member of the music department at State College for 30 years, died at a St. Louis Hospital Monday night; she moved to Kirkwood, Mo., several months ago.

Cape Girardeau firefighters are circulating petitions asking the city council either to adopt a longevity pay increase ordinance they have proposed or to call a special election at which voters may either adopt or reject it.

75 years ago: Aug. 31, 1935

Missouri's Golden Troopers, the American Legion drum and bugle corps, leave for Columbia, Mo., where they will defend their state championship title tomorrow night in the annual contest.

John Hunze and Fred Mammon, two local Municipal League players, have returned from St. Louis, where they participated in a baseball school sponsored by the St. Louis Cardinals; Hunze was given a contract and will report to either the Springfield, Mo., club or the Bloomington, Ill., club.

100 years ago: Aug. 31, 1910

At last, Sloan's Creek will be bridged and a clear road will be built between the city and residents living just north of the city limits; Herman Loeffel of Cape Girardeau was awarded a contract yesterday to build the concrete bridge, including the dumps and approaches, the cost being $4,894.

C.L. Moore, who is connected with First National Bank, returns from a business trip to Baltimore; as he returned, he stopped for a day with L.S. Joseph, who is spending his vacation near Quincy, Mich., where he owns a fine summer resort.
