Perryville, Mo. - Speaking at dedication of new St. Vincent's High School building, Archbishop Joseph E. Ritter strongly urges new state law or revision of state Constitution to permit public school buses to carry Catholic pupils to parochial schools; attorney general's office last week ruled that state funds can't be used for this purpose.
Four new teachers for Trinity Lutheran School have arrived in Cape Girardeau; they are Norma Steinbach of Mayville, Wis., who will teach second grade; Grace Baumann of Marshall, Wis., fourth grade; Mrs. Edward Bender of Cape Girardeau, kindergarten, and Mrs. E.H. Hilpert, also of Cape Girardeau, who will teach sixth grade until replacement for Paul Steffens is found.
75 years ago: Aug. 30, 1928
Lorimier School building, first public school in Cape Girardeau, is to be abandoned after 57 years of continuous service; Board of Education has decided to abandon old building for school purposes and to move its equipment to Broadway School; all pupils, who last year attended Lorimier or who are in district now served by it, will be transferred to Broadway School.
Contract for paving of road from Cape Girardeau traffic bridge to McClure, Ill., should be let in September; there has been no action to secure right of way, and that work will be left in hands of Alexander County residents.
