Project engineers for the firm conducting a feasibility study on a proposed 8,500-acre recreational lake in Cape Girardeau and Bollinger counties advises the lake committee that preliminary results show there are no apparent problems with the proposed site.

1963

A minor earthquake shook Cape Girardeau and a section of Southeast Missouri, Southern Illinois and Northwest Kentucky shortly after 6:30 last night; the tremor was substantially lighter than that which rocked a much-larger area in March and damaged some buildings.

The American Wind Symphony Orchestra, directed by Robert Boudreau, played a concert before nearly 5,000 Cape Girardeau and Southeast Missouri residents last night, despite the fact the orchestra's barge was two hours late.

1938

With a comparatively light vote despite a hot Democratic Supreme Court battle, Cape Girardeau County settled all county primary contests yesterday, two of which were uncertain until all 40 precincts were reported; in the court race, county voters gave the majority to Judge James M. Douglas over Judge James V. Billings.

Purchase of the North Main Street ice plant, one of the units operated by the Riverside Ice Co., by the Pure Ice Co., is announced by H.K. and Jim Dean, of Pure Ice; the new owners will take over the property Oct. 1.

1913

The Rev. and Mrs. F.Y. Campbell, and two daughters, leave on the train for Caruthersville, Mo., where they will open a soul-winning campaign in the evening; Mrs. Campbell goes as a personal worker and to help in the women's work; Miss Gabriella will work among the girls and young women, and will assist in the music, and Miss Mary will play the violin.

Prof. F.W. Niermann and wife and two children have gone to visit relatives in St. Louis, St. Joseph, Washington and Concordia, Mo.; in Niermann's absence, his pulpit at Trinity Lutheran Church is filled by Otto Wielitzko of Concordia Seminary.
