Merger talks between Cape Girardeau's two hospitals have been put on hold, says Southeast Missouri Hospital administrator O.D. Niswonger; however, Niswonger stresses Southeast remains committed to reopening talks with Saint Francis Medical Center at some point in the future.
A bit of Revolutionary War history has been discovered at Old Apple Creek Presbyterian Church cemetery at Pocahontas; through the genealogical efforts of LaFern McLain Stiver and Elsie McLain Reynolds, the grave of Alexander McLain Jr., a Revolutionary War veteran, will be marked with a new monument.
The Tigers won the 1964 Boys League Championship, marking the third crown for the team since City Little League Series play began in 1954; team members are Tony Hite, Roy Birk, Melvin Busch, David Sanders, Mike Klipfel, Marvin Klipfel, Tim Kelly, Steve Nicholas, Tim Hahn, Richard Spalding, Richard Mitten and Billy Eaker.

Dick Frissell, a newspaper reporter, gets a severe beating at the hands of a city night watchman and police officer, when he steps into the Crescent Restaurant to buy a cigar; Frissell recently wrote an article that reflected poorly on the officer's activities; the two exchange angry words, which escalates into a physical attack on Frissell.
The Cape Girardeau postal clerks had a busy day yesterday; they distributed 500 big 5-pound catalogs from a Chicago mail order house.
