Vernice Baumstark, a charter member of the Saint Francis Medical Center Auxiliary, was honored at a farewell party yesterday; she is moving to Florida to be near her grandchildren.

Missouri Pacific Railroad maintenance crews are in Cape Girardeau beginning the repair of rough street crossings; the first work is being done on West End Boulevard, just south of Independence street.

CHARLESTON, Mo. -- City and school leaders here blame out-of-town forces with agitating integration problems that have resulted in an injunction suit against the public school system; seven parents of 10 black children are seeking a temporary injunction from the U.S. District Court in St. Louis to force the Charleston School District to enroll blacks on a fully integrated basis.

1937

Installation of a new newspaper press for The Missourian begins with the arrival of two experts from the factory at Battle Creek, Mich.; The Missourian will be issued at noon tomorrow and immediately a large crew of men will dismantle the old press and slide it into an adjoining room, where it will be reassembled by Monday for use while the new, 16-page Duplex tubular plate press is being installed.

A cablegram is received announcing the death of Lydia Kies in India yesterday; she will be buried at the mission station at Bilastur, carrying out her wishes to be buried in the country where she had worked as an Evangelical missionary 16 years.

All those wishing to enter events in the big field meet at the picnic to be given Labor Day by the parishioners of St. Vincent's Catholic Church are asked to apply to Ed Schindler by the end of the week.

The Osterloh sisters are closing out the queensware store their father started 35 years ago, and which they have been running since their father's long illness and death last year.
