A spokesman for the National Weather Service in Kansas City says a private contractor is scheduled to take over the hourly weather observation readings at the Cape Girardeau Municipal Airport on Oct. 1; until then, the observations will be taken by flight service specialists at the FAA Flight Service Station there.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Gov. John M. Dalton reports the prosecuting attorney of Stoddard County, Paul McGhee, has asked him to assign state investigators to help look into alleged vote frauds there during the Aug. 7 primary; there have been charges of multiple voting in the primary.

Pleading operating losses to the city council, the Cape Transit Co., which operates the city and school bus lines here, has asked permission from the council to offer shorter service hours in order to continue the city lines.

A city ordinance that would require that corpses be embalmed before being removed from the city was mentioned at a meeting of the city council Friday; morticians here suggested such an ordinance.

Principals of the cast of "Arabian Nights" are announced by production manager John W. Judd; narrators for the three-act outdoor spectacle will be lawyer Rush H. Limbaugh and Mrs. E.A. Reissau; taking the part of Scheherazade, who entertains the Sultan with stories of the Arabian Nights, will be Nelda Umbeck; the Schah-Fiar will be Terry Alt, and the Schah-Zenan will be Upton Palmer; singing parts go to Dr. Jean Ruff as the Cobbler and Jane Brewer as the Street Singer.

R. Shurtleff has been transferred to Cape Girardeau by the Underwood Typewriter Co.; he takes the place of W.J. Birch, who resigned several days ago and left for Thayer, Mo.

The Cape Girardeau City Council is taking steps to have a heating plant installed in the Common Pleas Courthouse, the latest step in modernizing the historic building; a few months ago, lavatories were installed.
