Amanda Lomax of Benton, Mo., was crowned queen of 1994 Jackson Homecomers last night; first runner up was Jennifer Paulus of Perryville, and second runner up was Frannie Trum of Sikeston.

Southeast Missouri State University is ahead of most of its OVC brethren in putting funding of women's athletic programs on par with those of their male counterparts; earlier in summer, Southeast approved proposal which in first phase calls for 60-40 percent split of resources in men's and women's athletics over next three years; other Ohio Valley Conference schools are all in various stages of developing their own gender-equity plans.

NEW MADRID, Mo. - Three members of Matthews family drown in small recreational lake near here; bodies of Thomas Grayum, 64, his wife Martha, 30, and their daughter, Norma, 13, are recovered from 20 feet of water in Washout Lake.

Cape Girardeau Police Revolver & Pistol Club has been organized; Police Chief Kenneth Cruse was elected president of club, which encourages "organized shooting among members of the police department, other law enforcement officers and interested citizens."

BENTON, Mo. - School board of Scott County District R-4 sets Sept. 21 as date for election to decide issuance of $285,000 in bonds for construction of new high school for district.

Going through entire year without accident, quarry department of Marquette Cement Mfg. Co., is presented bronze trophy during exercises at quarry office in South Cape Girardeau in evening.

The 140th Infantry, Southeast Missouri's crack detachment of Missouri National Guard, returned home yesterday from annual encampment at Camp Clark in Nevada, Mo., at which, as has become almost a habit, they captured lion's share of honors.
