25 years ago: Aug. 18, 1985

Word of Life Fellowship, Park and Merriwether, celebrates its 16th anniversary of operations with all-day services; a dinner is served at noon, and the Soul Crusaders sing for the afternoon service.

Don R. King, composition foreman with the Southeast Missourian for the last 17 years and a member of the printing profession for nearly 50 years, dies unexpectedly; he was 67 years old.

50 years ago: Aug. 18, 1960

Lana Vickery, a petite blonde from Chaffee, Mo., was crowned Miss Homecomers for 1960 at the annual coronation at the Jackson celebration last night; she is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Vickery.

State College will fully occupy two of its new buildings and a part of a third when first semester classes start Sept. 6; the Walter W. Parker Physical Education Building and Dearmont Quadrangle will be ready for full use, and part of the Arthur C. Magill Hall of Science will be ready; the new practical arts building won't be available until about Christmas.

75 years ago: Aug. 18, 1935

The Rev. P.T. Huffman has resigned his pastorate at the Assembly of God Church, South Sprigg and Hickory streets, and has accepted a call to a church in Jefferson City; the Rev. W.J. Higgins, for the past year pastor at Miami, Okla., and formerly pastor at Tulsa, has been called to succeed Huffman.

Speaking at the union service in Courthouse Park in the evening is the Rev. R.H. Daugherty, pastor of Centenary Methodist Church.

100 years ago: Aug. 18, 1910

Two shipments of big cables for the Cape Bell Telephone Co. have been received; there are 11 of the cable reels, containing an average of 600 wires, making a total of 14,700 lineal feet, which added to the cables now in use will make nearly 18 miles in the city.

Dr. Augustus W. Thompson of Mineral Wells, Texas, is in Cape Girardeau visiting his sister, Mrs. George McLain, and other relatives and old friends; its been 18 years since he visited here.
