Western Sizzlin' Steak House, 213 S. Kingshighway, has been purchased by Otis Manderson of Augusta, Ga., who recently moved to Cape Girardeau; he has named Nancy Cutright, long associated with the local restaurant, as manager.

Cape Girardeau native Dr. Michael C. Wulfers, who for the past two years has been practicing medicine in Ste. Genevieve, Mo., is returning to Cape Girardeau; Wulfers will open a practice in September in office space formerly occupied by Dr. John T. Crowe in the Medical Arts Building, 937 Broadway.

50 years ago: Aug. 17, 1960

Definite word that the construction of Interstate 55 will be started within the next 12 months comes in an announcement by the State Highway Department; the section of road from near Fruitland to a point near Ancell, a distance of 14.9 miles, will be started before next June 30.

FROHNA, Mo. -- By an overwhelming majority, voters yesterday approved both propositions of a bond issue for the purpose of constructing a waterworks system in Frohna.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Among the 112 law students who recently passed the state bar examinations were two from Cape Girardeau: S. Russell Vandivort and Robert B. Oliver III.

Paving of West End Boulevard from Normal Avenue north for nearly three blocks is completed in the afternoon under the direction of subcontractor F.W. Keller; the pavement is 36 feet wide; the shoulders along the pavement will be smoothed, and in about two weeks the street will open to traffic.

100 years ago: Aug. 17, 1910

Mother Reperata, the new superior for St. Vincent's Young Ladies Academy, arrives on the noon train from St. Louis, being met by several of the sisters from the convent; she succeeds Mother Placide, who had charge of the local school for 25 years.

R.L. Daniels, a native of Cape Girardeau County and a former Normal School student, has been nominated by the Democrats of Reynolds County for the state legislature.
