The Second Missionary Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau celebrates its 115th anniversary in the afternoon; the Rev. Albert Collins of Centerville, Ill., is guest speaker, and Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, also of Centerville, is the guest church.

A $1,000 donation and an offer to provide the necessary labor for construction of a baseball/softball complex at Oak Ridge has been made by the Oak Ridge Jaycees; the offer was made to the Oak Ridge Board of Education at the Summerfest celebration in Daisy last weekend.

50 years ago: Aug. 15, 1957

Several hundred Cape Girardeau residents visited the new municipal swimming pool in Capaha Park yesterday, and an estimated 250 people were on hand that evening for ceremonies dedicating the new pool, which opens to swimmers today.

The General Services Administration has notified Postmaster Ted Regenhardt that bids will be received in Kansas City on Aug. 29 for an old-fashioned, hand-fired coal furnace to be installed in the Cape Girardeau post office.

75 years ago: Aug. 15, 1932

Mrs. Jettie Hampton is sworn in as Cape Girardeau's first police matron and immediately begins her duties; her work will be of a social nature, but she also has the power of arrest and will give particular attention to juvenile cases.

Donald Pritchard, Teachers College tennis star, returned to Cape Girardeau yesterday from Culver, Ind., where he competed in the singles matches of the National Junior Tennis Tournament, and then with John Oliver, paired off in the doubles; Oliver, however, became ill with appendicitis and was removed to a South Bend, Ind., hospital, where he underwent an operation.

100 years ago: Aug. 15, 1907

Next Tuesday, the annual picnic and barbecue will be given at New Hamburg, Mo., by the Catholic church there; this is an event that is attended by hundreds of people.

Mrs. Ella Wall Rodney has purchased the fine residence and property at the northeast corner of Merriwether and Pacific streets from Ed Pott; the place is one of the best in Cape Girardeau.
