The Salvation Army, 701 Good Hope St., has doubled its property size by purchasing the lot south of its headquarters from Robert Meyer for $50,000; in memory of his wife, Mary, Meyer is donating $5,000 back to the Army; a chapel, offices and a multipurpose room are planned for the site.
A proposed office building project on Broadway, opposite Capaha Park, is on hold after the Planning and Zoning Commission delays action on the developer's rezoning and special use permit requests; the commission action follows a public hearing, at which neighborhood residents express concern that the building and rezoning of the entire 1400 block of the south side of Broadway from residential to commercial would lead to further commercial encroachment in their area.

The Rev. Grady Fannin, field representative of Teen-Challenge U.S.A., speaks in the evening at First Assembly of God Church; Teen-Challenge is a new concept of reaching America's youths for Christ.
In the absence of the pastor, Dr. C.E. Mount, two elders of First Presbyterian Church -- Jack L. Oliver and Burwell Fox -- conduct the morning worship service; the Rev. and Mrs. Mount are attending the annual Bible Conference at Montreat, N.C.

Gathering of Cape Girardeau's peach crop of about 15,000 bushels is underway, with about 125 people employed in picking between 1,100 and 1,300 bushels daily; the harvest will be in full swing the latter part of the week and will be completed next week.
Practicing alone yesterday for his championship match with Harry Cole, young golfing lawyer Jack Knehans sank a ball on the fifth hole for an unofficial hole-in-one.

The Southeast Undertaking Co. has made another improvement on the fine ambulance it has for emergency calls; the company has purchased a new ambulance chair with rollers; this will be much handier than the old one, which had to be carried.
William Griffin of St. Louis has taken charge of the Lyric Theater here; better pictures will be shown, and a first-class orchestra will furnish the music.
