Arthur J. Rosser, the director of vocational education at Southeast Missouri State University, has been named the new dean of the College of Applied Science and Technology at Central Missouri State University at Warrensburg.

Two Broadway locations tied as the top spot for motor vehicle accidents in Cape Girardeau during the second quarter of 1986; from April through June eight accidents were reported on Broadway between Perry Avenue and Whitelaw, and the same number on Broadway between Park and West End Boulevard.

50 years ago: July 9, 1961

An open house and reception is held in the evening at First Presbyterian Church, honoring Dianna Farnham, the new director of Christian education.

R.B. Goodwin of Jackson, former manager of the Goodwin Produce Co., of Jackson and Delta, who was widely known for his participation in athletics, politics and community affairs, dies of pneumonia; Goodwin, 59, had been in failing health for the past year.

75 years ago: July 9, 1936

Maj. Lloyd C. Stark of Louisiana, Mo., candidate for the Democratic nomination for governor, speaks in the evening at Courthouse Park.

Razing of buildings on the east side of Sprigg Street, just south of Good Hope Street, begins to make way for the construction of a large brick store building; the owner, Henry A. Nussbaum, has let a contract to Boren Bros., for construction of a one-story structure which will have a frontage of 112 feet on Sprigg Street; five store rooms will be provided in the new building.

100 years ago: July 9, 1911

The athletic department of Anchor Lodge, No. 31, Knights of Pythias, meets for the purpose of organizing a baseball team; players include Earic Allen, R. Johnson, William Randol, C. Allen, Robert S. Cobb, E. Smith, J. Lambert, William Foeste, D. Pierce and George Ellis.

About 200 black society folk from Cairo, Ill., pay Cape Girardeau a visit, and are greeted by a large crowd on the riverfront; the excursion is brought up on the steamer Three States.
