A decision on a proposed ordinance aimed at regulating abortion in the city of Cape Girardeau was postponed at last night's city council meeting, but Mayor Howard C. Tooke says he would support a vote on the ordinance at the next meeting set for July 19.

The Rev. Ronnie Stout of Los Angeles speaks at both the morning and evening services at the Foursquare Church in Cape Girardeau; he fills in for the Rev. Edith Bailey, who is attending summer camp with a group of young people of the congregation.

The Rev. Glenn Cummings has been named the new pastor of Bethany Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau; he succeeds the Rev. A.J. Langston, who was supply pastor at the church during June.

75 years ago: July 7, 1932

With all members present, the Teachers College Board of Regents last night settled the athletic situation at the college; the board elected professor George Pritchard as director of the department of physical education and professor of physiology and hygiene.

Whereas a decade ago restaurants in Cape Girardeau were few and far between, there are now 61 open invitations for the tired and hungry business man who hasn't time to go home for dinner.

100 years ago: July 7, 1907

The Rev. E.T. Adams and the members of the Methodist church in Cape Girardeau are preparing to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the church; Joseph W. Powell, known as "The Brotherhood Man" of Buffalo, N.Y., will have charge of the special services and will speak at each meeting; the jubilee rally day will be July 14, and the meetings will be held in the new church building.

The Rev. A.T. Osbron is again in the ministry in this territory, and this fall will hold an old-time camp meeting at McKendree Chapel.
