Curtis Kelley and his sons, Dwight, Claude and Fred Kelley, all of Cape Girardeau, announce the purchase of Carter Cab Co., from Nick Carter Jr.; the company will continue to be run under the name of Carter Cab and will use the same headquarters at 122 N. Sprigg St.

Louis Meisenheimer will leave at the end of the week for East Aurora, N.Y., to join the Buffalo Bills of the American Football League's pre-season tryout camp; Meisenheimer, a Central High School graduate, will be one of about 80 candidates trying to win a berth on the 33-man squad.

75 years ago: July 5, 1935

A service station operated by Albert Haman on Highway 61 near the West Broadway intersection is being remodeled; a canopy on the station building has been taken off, and a large dormer is being placed at the middle of the building, on the east side; the station is adjacent to a refreshment establishment operated by Haman.

Representatives of the Corps of Engineers present detailed plans to the Chamber of Commerce for a levee structure that would protect South Cape Girardeau from Mississippi River floods; two miles of dikes would employ 200 men for four months and would cost around $75,000.

100 years ago: July 5, 1910

Mrs. W.O. Bowman and child, Mollie and May Bowman, and Clara Lind leave in the afternoon for a visit with Mrs. W.E. Walker at Timpas, Colo., a sister of Mrs. Bowman; they will remain until August, when Mr. Bowman will join them.

Augusta Adams, daughter of Mrs. Emma J. Adams of Near Pocahontas, is in Cape Girardeau on her way to Caruthersville, Mo., near which place she will resume teaching school after a week's vacation.
