Dr. Andrew L. Pratt has been selected by the Missouri Baptist Convention to succeeds Dr. Thomas S. Messer as director of the Baptist Student Center and professor of the chair of Bible at Southeast Missouri State University.
ADVANCE, Mo. -- Bishop John J. Leibrecht of the Springfield-Cape Girardeau Diocese has announced the appointment of the Rev. Lewis E. Hejna as pastor of St. Joseph Parish here and St. Anthony Parish at Glennon, Mo.; Hejna was ordained in 1981 and has served as associate pastor of St. Mary's Cathedral in Cape Girardeau.
The long-desired extension of South West End Boulevard from its terminal point at Elm Street to Highway 74 is in prospect for next year under a cooperative project of the city and the Cape Special Road District; the city has completed a survey of the route, and right of way acquisition is expected to begin soon by the road district.
The State Highway Commission has approved the bid of the Adams Building and Maintenance Co. of Chicago for painting the traffic bridge here; work is expected to begin Sept. 1.

A committee representing the business men of Main Street is circulating a petition asking for the opening of Main Street between Independence and William streets; some time ago, the same effort was made, but several property owners failed to approve the plan.

Nichols and his force are still after the women who stay in town, work never a bit, have no visible means of earning a living decently and yet walk the streets where only respectable women have a right; the chief has taken an "inventory" of a half dozen places in town where suspicion is pointing a damning finger.
