The PWA tentatively at least is holding up payment of $3,174.58, a part of the grant of about $56,000 on the West End sanitary sewer project since the Missouri State Board of Health hasn't given approval of the sewer system.
A runaway engine at the Union Mill and Lumber Co. plant in the far west end of Cape Girardeau drives at such speed that the flywheel breaks into several large pieces that fly off into space, one or two pieces wrecking the west end of the mill; the main shaft, which runs the full length of the building and furnishes the power for dozens of big planing machines, is bent into many directions, and pulleys and belts are twisted into all shapes.
