While other crops in the district are struggling to survive the recent drought, blackberries are thriving; Lucas Georger, a retired farmer, reports he has a bumper crop, with more than 1,000 blackberry bushes on his farm between Delta and Advance, Mo.

ROCKVIEW, Mo. -- A $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the theft this week of barricade warning signs from a bridge construction site along Route M, near Rockview; in addition to stealing five amber warning lights, the vandals also dragged one of the unlighted barricades out onto the highway during the night.

State College officials are considering the possibility of establishing college courses at the former air station in Malden, Mo.; it would be part of a continuing effort on the part of Dunklin and Pemiscot county leaders to bring higher education to their vicinity.

Work on the final link in Cape Girardeau's flood-control system along the Mississippi River began yesterday with the clearing of the site, early excavation and staking out the path the new concrete floodwall will take.

Plans are being made to raze the Grace Methodist Episcopal Church cottage to make room for a proposed new educational addition to the church; at 82, the cottage is the oldest remaining Protestant church structure in Cape Girardeau, having formerly served as a house of worship.

Dr. Carl Schulz, local dentist, is planning on returning to Chicago soon, after practicing here for the last year; his office was at 704 Broadway; Schulz is a brother of Dr. G.B. Schulz.

1913

D.B. Smith, superintendent of the shoe factory, and Will Bergmann, the grocer, are preparing to leave Saturday for a three-week tour of the East; the first stop of these expert fishermen will be Buffalo, N.Y.

The cornerstone of the new Lutheran Church at Illmo was laid Sunday morning; enclosed in a copper box in the stone were daily newspapers, German and English hymnals, a photo of the old church, the names of the preacher and church officers, a church history and a photo of Illmo's Main Street.
