At least two crewmen are missing after two towboats collide and one sinks in the morning fog on the Mississippi River just south of Cape Girardeau; because the Helen Tully sinks in the main channel about 100 yards above the Thebes, Ill., railroad bridge, the river will be closed until salvage operations are completed.

An ordinance limiting parking on both sides of North Frederick Street in front of the post office received final approval from the Cape Girardeau City Council last night; the ordinance establishes 30-minute parking zones on both sides of the 300 block of North Frederick Street.

50 years ago: July 19, 1959

Walter P. Trost, Evangelical and Reformed missionary from Ghana, Africa, who just last week returned from the field, speaks at the morning service at Christ Evangelical and Reformed Church; for the past two years he has been principal of a high school and junior college, which is under the sponsorship of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Africa.

A reception honors the Rev. and Mrs. W.T. Holland and children, Kathy, Debbie and Tommy, in the evening at First Baptist Church; Rev. Holland is the new pastor of the church.

75 years ago: July 19, 1934

A heavy rain falls in the morning, bringing lower temperatures and dampening the parched ground in Cape Girardeau and vicinity; yesterday's official high in Cape Girardeau was 99 degrees, which dropped to 76 degrees with the rain.

Ten Army rifles loaned the Louis K. Juden Post of the American Legion about 10 years ago by the federal government have been given to the post; each Springfield rifle is valued at between $30 and $40; they are used for military funerals.

100 years ago: July 19, 1909

August W. Schrader, the Broadway photographer, is in Rochester, N.Y., to attend the annual convention of photographers; while he is away, Wesley Heidel is in charge of the studio here.

Luigi's Show, which is a wagon show, and is said to be a good one, will give a performance this evening at the corner of Morgan Oak and Frederick streets; it has been performing in the smaller towns and villages in this and other counties.
