For first time in memory there are no ducks on Capaha Park Lagoon; city park officials have removed ducks for their own safety; cause is mysterious illness which in past month has killed 21 ducks; employees gather up birds and transport them to Shawnee Park Lagoon in south part of city.

Perryville - Voters yesterday narrowly approved $875,000 general obligation bond issue for addition and improvements to Perry County Nursing Home; vote was 1,305 for proposal and 611 against; proposal needed two-thirds majority for passage.

50 years ago: July 13, 1952

Special services at Church of the Nazarene mark congregation's 20th anniversary; guest speaker for day is the Rev. E.D. Simpson of St. Louis, district manager; the Rev. and Mrs. O.C. Granger and family of St. Louis, who were guest singers in first meeting held at local church 20 years ago, are present to provide special music.

New hospital building at Camp Lewallen, area Boy Scout camp, is dedicated in afternoon with council officials and representatives of Alpha Phi Omega, national Boy Scout fraternity, participating; hospital was built with funds raised largely by local Beta Psi chapter of fraternity.

75 years ago: July 13, 1927

Rain last night and early today, that is expected to be worth thousands of dollars to growing crops in Cape Girardeau County and counties to west, fail to extend to farming sections of other Southeast Missouri counties; heavy downpour last night is followed by slow, soaking rain and gave Cape Girardeau over two inches of precipitation in past 24 hours, breaking four-week drought.

It is announced that formal opening of Piggly Wiggly Store No. 2 at 623 Good Hope will be held Saturday; store is owned and operated by A.B. Hunter Jr. and R.D. Barrow, who also own and operate Store No. 1 on Broadway.
