Two pastors were recently installed at area Lutheran churches; the Rev. Dell Crockett became the pastor of Immanuel Lutheran Church at Jackson Route 1 in June, and the Rev. Charles C. Minetree was ordained and installed as pastor of Christ Lutheran Church at Gordonville on July 5.

The Rev. Tim McClard has been called to serve as minister of music and youth at Lynwood Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau.

50 years ago: July 12, 1962

Former governor James T. Blair, his wife and their police dog are found dead in their home in Jefferson City, Mo., the victims of carbon monoxide fumes; the deaths shock many Cape Girardeans associated with the former chief executive; Blair's most recent visit here was during his last year in office, 1960, when he helped dedicate the Town Plaza Shopping Center.

PARIS -- The Eagle badge, Boy Scout's highest honor, was awarded recently to John Cochran, son of Lt. Col. and Mrs. John H. Cochran Jr. of Cape Girardeau, at a Court of Honor held in the Supreme Headquarters, Allied Powers in Europe; the badge was originally awarded to the elder Cochran in June 1935.

75 years ago: July 12, 1937

Elmer A. Seefeld, a Marquette University football star of Milwaukee, Wis., has signed a contract to become athletic coach of Jackson High School.

Southeast Missouri Boy Scouts are en route home from their national jamboree at Washington, D.C., having departed from the capital; they are scheduled to arrive in Cape Girardeau on the Frisco Railroad at noon tomorrow.

100 years ago: July 12, 1912

The Hippodrome has quit business; this is regretted by those who have enjoyed the performances in the big roofless canvas show house; the entire season has been against the open-air theater because of the cool weather and the almost constant rains in June.

George E. Bell, who operates a big mill at Fornfelt, has purchased a five-passenger automobile, which he will put into service between Cape Girardeau and the towns of Illmo and Fornfelt, making three round trips daily.
