The Southeast Missouri Regional Port Authority awards a $637,467 contract to Potashnick Construction Inc. of Cape Girardeau for construction of a road from Route N on the east edge of Scott City to the proposed port site at Gray's Point north of Scott City.

A grave in a Cape Girardeau cemetery was vandalized Monday; police report someone using a snow shovel tried to dig into a grave in New Lorimier Cemetery.

50 years ago: July 12, 1959

The Ladies Senior Aid of Trinity Lutheran Church has voted to replace the doors at the front of the church, three doors on the sides and the sandstone step at the threshold of the church; a wrought iron handrail will also be installed on the front steps of the edifice.

The Rev. Paul H. Rahmeier, president of the Missouri Valley Synod of the Evangelical and Reformed Church, is presiding minister at the installation service of the Rev. Robert H. McPherson, new pastor of Christ Evangelical and Reformed Church.

75 years ago: July 12, 1934

A number of people in recent weeks have asked why no camps of the Civilian Conservation Corps had been located in Southeast Missouri; the closest one in Missouri is at Sam A. Baker State Park, 70 miles west of Cape Girardeau.

With prospects favorable that sufficient funds will be raised within a few days to pay the bill, the American Legion Drum & Bugle Corps measured up about half of the Golden Troopers last night for new uniforms; the manufacturer doesn't want the design made public yet, but the uniforms are to be in keeping with the Golden Trooper name.

100 years ago: July 12, 1909

The Missouri Naval Reserves are at Kimmswick for training, which will last until July 18; it is probable that the training ship Huntress will make two trips to Cape Girardeau during the reserves' stay at Kimmswick.

W.M. Behymer, a building contractor of Cape Girardeau, has been awarded the contract to build a new school building at Ward's Switch, a suburb of Morley in Scott County; the contract provides that the building must be completed in eight weeks.
