NEW HAMBURG, Mo. -- The Rev. Thomas P. Kiefer, a native of New Hamburg, has been appointed vice chancellor of the Springfield-Cape Girardeau Diocese, as well as pastor of Holy Trinity Parish in Marshfield, Mo.

Rail and freight traffic into Cape Girardeau and shipments out could be stopped almost completely if the nation-wide railroad strike goes into effect at noon tomorrow; goods affected would range from crushed stone to foodstuffs, which are shipped here daily on the Frisco and Missouri Pacific railroads.
SIKESTON, Mo. -- Sikeston voters yesterday approved the annexation of about 1,200 acres; the land, to the north, east and south of the city, will officially become part of Sikeston when the City Council approves the results of the election at its next meeting.

Lightning struck the big smokestack on the Himmelberger-Harrison Building on upper Broadway last night, when a terrific storm passed over the city; the house of John Unnerstall on South Ellis Street also was hit; in both cases, no great amount of damage was done.
Professor B.G. Shackelford, science teacher at the Normal School, has been elected principal of the Mount Pleasant Grammar School in St. Louis by the school board; Shackleford said he is seriously considering taking the offer.
