Traffic has been opened on the new stretch of U.S. 61 adjacent to Wedekind Park west of Cape Girardeau, and construction crews are now engaged in breaking up the concrete of the old pavement; the new stretch of highway extends from Memorial Park to a point on the original pavement west of the Interstate 55 overpass.
The executive committee of the Cape County Farm Bureau has decided to employ a home economics demonstration agent for this county; the Cape County Women's Council, successor of the County Health Association, will cooperate with the Farm Bureau in obtaining the funds for the local expenses, and the College of Agriculture will pay the salary.

An automobile, driven by Tom Hunt of Jackson, became unmanageable about 9 last night while going down Broadway hill and smashed into an electric light pole; the accident put out the lights in the two Grissom buildings and at the Hippodrome across the street, which was running its show at the time.
Four more Cape Girardeau Republicans file for office; L.R. Johnson and F.B. Goodman are in the race for representative; Dr. M.E. Shelton files for public administrator; and Judge Will Hirsch files for the judgeship from the first district.
