First Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau has elected interim staff members to following positions: Karen and Ken Enlow, minister of youth and activities; Pam Pratt, minister of senior adults and children, and Denise Lincoln, minister of university students and singles; all are members of church and are seminary trained.
Cape Girardeau's black leaders, who use forum of public-access television to inform residents of local NAACP activity, voice frustration at lack of progress in race relations; they also bemoan what they describe as limited economic opportunities for Cape Girardeau's black residents; "Community Awareness Program" is held at City Hall by local chapter of NAACP.

More than dozen building owners, including owner of fire-damaged Cape Hotel and Cape Cut Rate building at 701 Broadway, have until June 18 to repair or demolish structures which city has found in violation of city ordinances; condemnation notices were sent May 19 by assistant building inspector C.L. Smith to owners of 14 buildings, most of them residential.
Cairo, Ill. - Third fire in less than three weeks occurred last night on Interstate 57 bridge under construction here; authorities say minor damage resulted from blaze on Missouri side of river; they aren't blaming fire on arson, despite suspicion that arson was cause of two fires in Mid May.
50 years ago: June 7, 1952
Cape Girardeau man, Leonard LaCroix, 43, is fatally wounded in hunting accident early in morning in wooded area off Hitt Road, five miles southwest of Cape Girardeau; he lived at 214 S. Pacific and was employed by machine company in St. Louis; he is survived by his wife, former Deciree Bridges; son, two daughters, brother and three sisters.
Contract has been executed for purchase of Prof. Charles B. Lamb property, 31 N. Pacific, by Trinity Lutheran Church; property is located south of Trinity Lutheran School and extends from Pacific street to Benton; additional school facilities will be built in near future, and part of property will be used for this project.
75 years ago: June 7, 1927
Canalou - Bank of Canalou at Canalou in New Madrid County, with $35,700 total resources, is closed by board of directors and turned over to state finance commissioner; last statement of bank showed it had $10,000 capital, $3,000 surplus, $20,060 deposits, $24,200 loans and $2,000 bills payable; slow collection of loans and lack of business are given as reasons for closing institution.
Charleston - Worship services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 3, at which prayers will be offered for cessation of excessive rains which have seriously hampered spring planting of crops; ministers of principal churches have joined in issuing call for prayer and have urged all congregations to assemble in their respective churches at appointed time.-- Sharon K.
