Seven suits filed by U.S. government in federal court at St. Louis yesterday in condemnation proceedings to prepare for construction of floodway in Mississippi and New Madrid counties are expected to be transferred to U.S. District Court in Cape Girardeau; suits are first of 90 to be filed by government to acquire setback levee.
Paving of Highway 61 west of Cape Girardeau is resumed following period of more than three weeks inactivity resulting from failure to secure sand because of high stage of river; several carloads of sand have been shipped to Rouse Construction Co., contractor for paving route, and sufficient material is on hand to run more than two weeks.
