Jackson - Boundary dispute that lingered for more than 40 years between Jackson and Oak Ridge school districts was resolved last week by Missouri Court of Appeals Eastern Division; appellate court upheld decision of trial judge who ruled against Oak Ridge School District in 1990.
Ste. Genevieve - When Tower Rock Ferry Co. opened for business June 1, 1991, its owners expected ferry would carry about 35 cars per day, or 12,700 vehicles a year; but one year later, ferry has already carried more than 15,000 cars across Mississippi River between Ste. Genevieve and Modoc, Ill.

The Rev. Dr. E.C. Brasington, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, was elected moderator of Synod of Mid-America, Presbyterian Church in the United States (Southern), at its opening session Thursday in Warrensburg; as moderator, Brasington will head southern Presbyterian churches in most of Missouri and Kansas, approximately 41,000 members in 312 churches.
Local tavern and restaurant was destroyed yesterday by fire that swept between false ceiling and roof of one-story building, making it extremely difficult for firemen to reach; fire erupted in kitchen area of Sandbox, 635 N. Main, just before noon and spread into attic area between ceiling and roof; owner of restaurant is Betty Littleton.
50 years ago: June 5, 1952
Black market potato dealers are asking double ceiling price for their scarce commodity, several local grocers report; most of retailers indicate they are giving "cold shoulder" to potato profiteers; meanwhile, potato shortage continues to be critical, and retailers say they expect it to remain so for three weeks or more.
State Division of Health reports sanitary conditions in Smelterville area of Cape Girardeau are "deplorable" and submits to city 11 recommendations for action to control menace of mosquitoes and flies, carriers of malaria and other germs, there and elsewhere in town; study was made at request of city officials and county sanitarian.
75 years ago: June 5, 1927
Mrs. Vera Spencer, widely known evangelist of Midwest, opens three-week revival meeting in tabernacle at Sprigg and Hickory streets, under auspices of Assembly of God Church; Spencer, who is only 22 years old, has been in ministry since she was 15 years old; she and her husband, Raymond Spencer, who leads the singing, come here from Alton, Ill., where they just closed very successful meeting.
At meeting of Board of Trustees of Will Mayfield College last week, contract was let for completion of new science hall; general contract was awarded to Linus Lenzel and heating and plumbing contract to V.C. Taylor, both of Jackson.
