Columbia, Mo. -- Several hundred fans cheered on Notre Dame High's Bulldogs during Class 2A state baseball championship, and long trip from Cape Girardeau was certainly worth it; Bulldogs rewarded their supporters by winning state title with 3-1 victory over Mansfield here; Notre Dame took advantage of several key Mansfield errors to score three unearned runs, and that was enough to back three-hit pitching of Tim Garner.
When seniors at Cape Girardeau Central High School graduate today, majority of them have said they want to stand as class and recite Lord's Prayer together; school administration has been advised by district's legal counsel to discourage students from doing so.

First Baptist Church at Jackson holds reception in evening honoring its pastor, Dr. Anthony Gordan, who received his doctor of ministries degree on May 13, from Baptist Theological Seminary in New Orleans.
Trinity Lutheran Church of Egypt Mills celebrates Black Centennial with evening service; the Rev. Kermit H. Ratcliffe, pastor of Unity Lutheran Church of East St. Louis, makes special plea for recruiting black people to become full-time church workers.

Reduction of 2 cents in airport bond tax is agreed to at conference of Municipal Airport board members and Mayor Manning P. Greer and Commissioner Roy Smith; board's agreement will go to city council for action in preparing city's tax rate for collection to begin in early fall.
Army Col. Robert G. Johnston of Jackson has been named new commander of Southwestern Command at Otsu, Japan; he replaces Brig. Gen. Carter W. Clark, who has been reassigned to United States; Johnston, veteran of 18 years of active duty with Army, for past 15 months has been chief of staff of command at Otsu.
75 years ago: June 4, 1928
Rain, which fell all day yesterday and until early hour today over virtually all sections of Southeast Missouri, floods highways and bottom land, causing some damage to growing crops in lower sections; bridge over Williams Creek, seven miles northwest of Cape Girardeau, was washed out Sunday, and later in day approach to new bridge, which had been temporarily opened, was also torn away by floodwaters of creek.
City plan commission, advisory body which will work out details of city plan for Cape Girardeau, is appointed by city council; members are Rush Limbaugh, city counselor; Edward L. Sailer, city engineer; W.H. Bohnsack, C.G. Wilson, Julien N. Friant, E.G. Gramling, Alfred Hirsch, Arthur H. Gerhardt and Dennis Scivally.
