Jackson -- County commission votes to renew one-year contract with state to operate federally supported Title IV-D program in prosecutor's office to collect delinquent child-support payments; commissioners had delayed taking action on contract because of concern that $6,500 of profit it made from program would have to go into special prosecutor's retirement fund created two years ago.

In opinion filed yesterday, St. Louis Court of Appeal upheld District Court ruling barring city of Jackson from intervening in city of Cape Girardeau's annexation suit involving land lying just west of I-55 and Highway 61 intersection; by upholding that decision, court rejected contention of city of Jackson that its resolutions of intent filed 16 months prior to action taken by Cape Girardeau constituted "prior jurisdiction" over the matter.
Yesterday marked sixth consecutive day of rain for Cape Girardeau, and farmers are - at least temporarily - saying enough is enough; official rain accumulation at Municipal Airport for period Thursday through Tuesday was 2.50 inches.
50 years ago: June 29, 1952
Sherrill's Divine Healing Tent Revival is coming to Cape Girardeau for 17-day engagement under auspices of First Assembly of God Church and other cooperating churches; the Rev. R.A. Sherrill of Farmington will lead series beginning July 3; revival will be held in large tent at 1300 South Sprigg Street, at Y of Highways 74 and 61 bypass.
Maple Avenue Methodist Church dedicates plaque at regular morning worship service to men of congregation who lost their lives in World War II; the Rev. J.C. McDaniel, who was pastor of church when these men attended, delivers sermon.
75 years ago: June 29, 1927
Illmo -- Missouri Pacific Railroad will leave Illmo immediately and will transfer part of its present office force here to Poplar Bluff; decision is announced to local residents in afternoon by railroad officials as they arrive for inspection tour of this division; ruling will affect 32 employees and will remove 28 families from town; railway officials say removal of division headquarters is part of road's economy program and was made necessary by heavy losses incurred during recent flood.
W.F.D. "Bill" Batjer Will start work Friday for people of Cape Girardeau under direction of agricultural committee of Chamber of Commerce; he will devote his entire time to rural development in Cape Girardeau County; Batjer came to Southeast Missouri from Arkansas little over year ago to become secretary of old Southeast Missouri Agricultural Bureau, which has been disbanded.
