25 years ago: June 25, 1982

A new television signal is expected to join the area's airwaves this winter as KBSI, Channel 23, begins operating in Cape Girardeau; the independent UHF station, owned by Cape Girardeau Family Television Inc., will air syndicated programs, movies and locally-produced programming.

Motorists are paying almost what they paid last summer for gasoline, according to the Auto club of Missouri's survey of 61 stations on major highways in Missouri, Illinois and Kansas; the price of gasoline averages $1.31 a gallon.

50 years ago: June 25, 1957

A request from the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce for a survey to establish an urban renewal program for the city is under study by Mayor Walter H. Ford.

Cape Girardeau police last night checked a truck that was transporting 30 Mexican nationals through for work in Wisconsin; it was found the driver had no travel papers, which are required when workers are transported from state to state.

75 years ago: June 25, 1932

The Cape Girardeau traffic bridge is faced with a possible receivership following filing of a suit in Federal Court at St. Louis yesterday by Carl Rude of Harrisburg, Ill., holder of $4,000 of the bridge bonds, who asked that a receiver be appointed and that claims of creditors be determined, and that the court order sale and distribution of the bridge company's assets.

Plans are being made for a Fourth of July community picnic at Fairgrounds Park in Cape Girardeau; funds raised will be used during the coming winter months for relief work here.

100 years ago: June 25, 1907

At a meeting of many stockholders in the Chautauqua association last evening, four new directors were named: W.S. Dearmont, the Rev. F.X. Feely, I.R. Kelso and J.H. Himmelberger; the association has made a contract with the Cape Girardeau Fair Association to lease the fairgrounds for $140, $40 being for watchmen's services.

Christ Evangelical Church congregation gives a big excursion in the evening; over 250 tickets were sold, and the crowd taxes the accommodations of the big steamer Cape Girardeau.
