Cape Girardeau County circuit judges Stephen N. Limbaugh Jr. and A.J. Seier have turned down a request by county prosecuting attorney Morley Swingle for the formation of a standing grand jury; the judges believe such a body is unnecessary, because no long delays exist at the magistrate level here.

The main building of St. Vincent's College is undergoing a thorough renovation, work which will require another month to complete; all of the old stucco exterior finish is being removed from the red brick, and the building will be painted a light buff or tan; the interior is also being redecorated and renovated throughout; Anton Haas is doing the work.
Thomas M. Williams is not only running the new Freeze threshing machine factory here, but he is selling the machines faster than they can be turned out; the new plant isn't in full running order yet, but nevertheless four machines have been sold in the past week.
W.J. Koecher, the well-known blacksmith on North Spanish Street, just north of the Baptist church, was overcome by heat yesterday afternoon while at work in his shop; for a time it was feared he wouldn't recover, but late last night a change for the better came; he is now doing nicely.
