Charleston, Mo., developer George Staples suggests he may seek a change of venue in the 7-year-old Westborough Mall case now that a federal appeals court has reversed a 1983 jury verdict against him and sent the case back to U.S. District Court here for a new trial.

H. Lee Clark, superintendent of Trail of Tears State Park, says he will suggest to state park officials that the old rock quarry reservoir in the park be closed to swimmers in view of an accident yesterday and two others in the past two months that resulted in injuries to young people.

50 years ago: June 24, 1961

Fowler and John Jones, brother owners of the Jones Furniture Co., have purchased three pieces of property from L.F. Brenneisen: the building at 2118 Broadway, occupied by the N.O. Nelson Co.; the building in the 700 block of Broadway, occupied by Ochs Floral Co., and Tinsley Appliance center, and the building at the southeast corner of Sprigg and Morgan Oak streets, occupied by General Electric Supply Co.

Dr. and Mrs. G.E. Magaletta have moved to 1501 Whitener St. from St. Louis, where they resided the past 10 years; he is opening an office in the Medical Arts Building.

75 years ago: June 24, 1936

A total of $56,850 in checks, covering that amount of bonus bonds, has been distributed through the mail since Monday to Cape Girardeau veterans; about 140 vets received the money.

Draining the municipal swimming pool three times a week and the wading pool four or five times a week into the lagoon at Fairground Park is rapidly bringing it back to normal levels; the lagoon had been low due to a leak in the lake and to evaporation.

100 years ago: June 24, 1911

It is now Judge H.E. Alexander after he was elected judge of the police court yesterday, succeeding the late Rudolph Bahn; he defeated Ed Drum and Orren Wilson at a special election.

Louis Graessle leaves in the morning for St. Louis with his youngest daughter to join his family there, which had preceded him and rented a house in the Mound City; the leaving winds up Graessle's active career here, for the time at least; he retains ownership of a business house on Broadway, which will be rented.
