Seven Southeast Missouri men will be inducted into the "Lewallen Hall of Fame" during a special program June 26 to celebrate Camp Lewallen's 50 years of service to Boy Scouts camping; honored will be Charles Baker of Kennett, A.J. "Buck" Drinkwater of Charleston, the late Harry Himmelberger of Cape Girardeau, Bob Keathley of Bernie, the late Bill West of Dexter, Earl Stratton of Cape Girardeau and Walter Hedrick of Sikeston, Mo.

The Cape Girardeau School Board decides to place a 48-cent school tax levy increase before voters in a special election Oct. 7; the proposal calls for increasing the district's operating fund, bringing the total tax levy to $3.18 per $100 assessed valuation.

50 years ago: June 23, 1961

Warren M. Black, superintendent of schools at Herculaneum, Mo., has been appointed supervisor of public schools in Southeast Missouri; Black, who will replace Delmar Cobble, will move to Cape Girardeau in August.

Arnold Roth of Cape Girardeau plans to go by plane tomorrow to Dayton, Ohio, to attend a reunion at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base of those who piloted planes during World War I; Roth received his pilot training in England and flew with a British contingent; he also served in World War II.

75 years ago: June 23, 1936

With balloting light, Cape Girardeau voters approve by more than 4 to 1 a proposal to issue $85,000 in bonds to permit construction of a new grade school building at the old Lorimier School site; there are 1,296 votes for the measure and 285 against.

The Cape Girardeau Fire Department is now equipped with a new resuscitator-inhalator that is ready for use in an emergency, such as drowning or choking.

100 years ago: June 23, 1911

Today's election of a police judge to replace the late Rudolph Bahn has excited no great interest; indications are that only a third of the usual votes will be cast.

Belthazar Erlbacher, who has the most modern machine shop in Southeast Missouri on North Main Street here, was kicked violently by a stubborn automobile yesterday; as a result, he is wearing his right arm in a sling, with splints holding a bad fracture of the lower arm in place.
