Andrew's, Cape Girardeau's newest venture into the major restaurant business, has opened in Plaza Galleria on Independence Street; it will hold a formal opening following the completion of the restaurant's banquet facility, reports Andrew Dirnberger, owner.

The Sunny Hill Motor Inn property at 45 S. West End Blvd., has been leased by the owner, L.C. Blattner Jr., to William C. Evans of Cape Girardeau; for the immediate future, Evans will operate the 48-room motel; he has no plans to revive food services.

50 years ago: June 23, 1960

Bright blue taxiway lights went on at Municipal Airport this week, further adding to the facilities at the city's revamped field for air travelers.

Old Lorimier Cemetery is again becoming a place of beauty as restoration and repairs remove most of the scars of neglect and vandalism; the Cape County Historical Society took on the job of preservation with the assistance of city employees; several large lights have been installed to discourage future vandalism.

75 years ago: June 23, 1935

Otto Kochtitzky, widely known drainage engineer and long recognized as the "father of the drainage system" in Southeast Missouri, dies unexpectedly at his home in Cape Girardeau; Kochtitzky, who was 80 years old, hadn't been well during the past year.

CAMPBELL, Mo. -- Pitching for the Campbell baseball team here against the Harrisburg, Ill., club, Paul Bray, erstwhile bank clerk of Fornfelt, hurls a no-hit, no-run game; Bray strikes out 15 batters in the 10-0 Campbell win.

100 years ago: June 23, 1910

The school board has authorized several important improvements to Cape Girardeau's public school; bids will be sought for thoroughly cleaning and painting the interior of Lincoln School; Pape Brothers has been given a contract for placing supports to the roof of West Broadway School, their bid being $40; because of the crowded condition of the grammar grades, the advisability of placing eighth-grade pupils in the high school rooms will be reconsidered.

Dorsey and Robert Whitelaw of Los Angeles, Calif., are in Cape Girardeau visiting their uncle, Robert H. Whitelaw, and other relatives; they are sons of George Whitelaw.
