Carl Ritter, State College's all-time high basketball scorer, has reinjured his knee and was sidelined this week in tryouts with the St. Louis Hawks professional team; if the knee responds to treatment, Ritter will make another attempt with the Hawks when fall drills start in September.

T.J. McGinty, superintendent of Southeast Missouri Hospital for the last five years, submits his resignation to the board of trustees, asking to be relieved by July 10 to enter other work.

Missouri Park was suggested by Commissioner Paul R. Brooks during a City Council meeting yesterday as a possible playground for Cape Girardeau's black population; blacks have no public place to gather for baseball and other games; six-acre Missouri Park is partially filled in, now being used as a city dump ground.

1913

The first big picnic of the season is held at the fairgrounds for employees of the shoe factory; the festivities include horse races, mule races, bicycle races, motorcycle races and people races; in the evening, employees enjoy a dance.

J.H. Temme, architect for the Franciscan Sisters, is in town to go over the plans for the new Saint Francis Hospital; the new building, to be built on Good Hope Street, will face north, and the frontage will be about 165 feet; red brick with considerable terra-cotta trimming and white cut stone window sills will give the big building a stately and clean appearance.
